Everest: The First Ascent in London Travel from Kathmandu to the roof of the world without leaving Camden. Everest: The First Ascent is an immersive VR experience following the historic 1953 expedition, with Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay and the Sherpas at the heart of the story.
What is Everest: The First Ascent? This virtual reality adventure puts you inside the expedition. Wearing a headset, you explore mountain landscapes while discovering the people and Sherpa traditions behind the climb.
What to expect After a briefing and headset fitting, you enter a shared VR space, moving through scenes of glaciers, icefalls and the ascent. Expect dramatic virtual heights and a story focused on teamwork and determination.
Is it good for children? Children aged 8 and over can take part with adult supervision. It could appeal to adventurous older children, although the virtual heights may feel intense for anyone nervous about them.
How long does it take? Allow around 40 minutes, including approximately 35 minutes in VR and additional time for fitting the headset.
Where is it? Eclipso London, Basement Floor, 213–219 Camden High Street, London, NW1 7BT. Camden Town station, on the Northern line, is immediately nearby. Look for the entrance between JD Sports and Urban Outfitters.
When is the best time to visit? Choose a session that leaves time to explore Camden afterwards. Book your preferred slot ahead and arrive at the time on your ticket: late entry is not permitted.
How much does it cost? The booking page currently lists adult tickets at £27 and children’s and student tickets at £21, each plus a 50p booking fee. Prices vary by session and ticket type.
Is it worth visiting? For anyone interested in exploration, history or immersive storytelling, this offers an unusual addition to a Camden day out. Its appeal lies in experiencing the scale of Everest through VR, with a manageable visit length that leaves room for other plans.
