Kyoto Garden

Kyoto Garden is a tranquil Japanese-style garden within Holland Park in west London. Donated by the Kyoto Chamber of Commerce in 1991 as part of the Japan Festival project, it was created to celebrate the longstanding friendship between Japan and the UK.

The compact garden combines carefully placed rocks, a waterfall, a koi pond and seasonal planting in a setting designed around harmony and balance. Peacocks often roam through this part of the park, making it a popular spot for a short pause, photography or a peaceful walk.

Autumn brings particularly vivid red and orange foliage, while spring is a good time for blossom. Entry is free and no ticket is needed. Holland Park opens daily from 7.30am until dusk; check the closing time displayed at the gates, as some may close slightly early. Kyoto Garden itself is small, so allow around 15–30 minutes, or longer if combining it with the park’s woodland paths, Dutch Garden and café.

It is busiest around late morning and at weekends, especially during autumn, so visit early for a quieter experience and better photographs. Dogs are not permitted in Kyoto Garden, and professional photography or organised shoots require permission.

The nearest stations are Holland Park (Central line) and High Street Kensington (Circle and District lines).

For step-free park access, use the entrances at Ilchester Place, North Abbotsbury Road, Duchess of Bedford Walk or High Street Kensington. Public toilets, accessible toilets and a café are available elsewhere in Holland Park.

At the bottom of Holland Park itself along Kensington High Street you can find the Design Museum so if you're looking to fill your time you can visit the two one after another. Kensington High Street is also the perfect spot to get food/drinks and do some shopping.
